Trusting Our Father with Minor, Mid-Size, and Major Stuff

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,

according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen. Eph. 3:20-21

Heavenly Father, on this June Saturday, we are grateful for your non-stop commitment to work in all things for our good, and Jesus’ glory. May we fear measurably less, as you do immeasurably more.

Today our prayer lists contain all-sized requests, which we gladly bring to you, the God of all grace. These past couple of weeks have stirred up many passions in our country and hearts. The many-decades-old pandemic of racism has taken center-stage over the many-months-pandemic of COVID-19—appropriately so.

Father, show each of us where we are more ethno-fearful, and skin-colored prejudiced, and “my-tribe” arrogant than we realize. I remember when “coloreds” couldn’t drink from the same water fountain or use the same bathrooms as me, a white person. Have mercy, on us Father. Teach us, lead us, change us. Protests are helpful; but long-term, pro-active engagement is critical.

We also pray for church families transitioning into re-gathering mode. Grant us wisdom, care, patience, and safety. Though racism will outlast this virus, this virus is still among us.

We pray for police departments, government officials, business owners, and school administrators. Father, their stress is growing, decisions are looming, and constituents are restless. Help one and all alike.

We pray for friends and neighbors impacted by the economic fallout of COVID. May we serve them with presence, listening, and tangible generosity. Father, all these things are actually in the “major” category. We will trust you as well with our “minor” and “mid-sized” concerns as well. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ mighty and merciful name.
