Traveling with Joy

“I commend the enjoyment of life because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.” Eccles. 8:15

Heavenly Father, thank you for commanding Sabbath celebration and daily joy. If you hadn’t, we’d go to the extremes of workaholism (worshipping productivity) or hedonism (worshipping pleasure).

On this April Saturday, we are grateful for the gifts of rest, delight, and gladness. Indeed, thank you for giving us…

Taste buds, acoustic responders, and optic wiring

Aroma capacity, nerve endings, and smile muscles

What a Father you are—intending joy to be our traveling companion all the way Home. What simple delights and gladness-fuel fill my heart-tank today? Thank you for… (what’s on your list?)

The aroma of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon-topped dough baking at 375 degrees.

Rainbows after the storm, memory-connecting songs, and snort-producing laughs.

Pain-weathered relationships, grandkids with a new aquarium, and Spring-greening.

On-the-calendar trips to be with friends for fishing, fun-ing, and heart-connection.

Above all, Father, thank you for the Gospel. It is truly true, incomparably beautiful, and inexhaustibly good. Our ongoing work under the sun has meaning because of the finished work of your beloved Son—Jesus. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ joyful and loving name.
