“As I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. Rev. 4:1-2
Dear Jesus, on a regular basis, life reminds us how little control we have over anything—over X-rays and sunrays, the quality of the weather and the quantity of our hurts, unexpected windfalls and events that knock the wind out of us.
Yet, through the riches of your grace and the work of your Spirit, we’re more comfortable with acknowledging you are God, and we are not. This is especially true as we enjoy the gift you gave John in Revelation 4-5: An unobstructed, technicolor, volume-up, 20/20 vision and auditory experience of heaven’s courts and you sitting on your throne—totally engaged and joyfully sovereign. There never has been, nor will there ever be, a “government shutdown” in heaven. Hallelujah!
We don’t really need a timeline of when everything’s going to be okay, new, and beautiful. All we need to know is that you are at work for your glory and our good, all the time in every place without exception. Jesus, you really DO have the whole world in your hands—including us, the nations of the world, our kids, our health, the chief’s hut in a distant village and the oval office in America’s capital.
You promise sufficient grace, not the satisfaction of our every agenda. You promise to make us like yourself, not place us in a hammock under a cool breeze. You promise full redemption not immediate relief. Thank. You. Jesus. So Very Amen.
