The Flow of Gifts from Our Father

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…”  James 1:17

Heavenly Father, I woke up tired, but very grateful. A couple of flight delays can’t sabotage the stream of good gifts I experienced over the past few days. But first of all, thank you for the one truly perfect gift—Jesus.

Father, you’ve never been obligated to give us our next breath, next meal, next anything. But out of the fullness of your love and generosity, you gave us Jesus—your only-begotten Son. Through Jesus, our now and forever are defined by “eternal life” (John 3:16).

Hallelujah, we are your in-Christ justified daughters and sons, your grace-adopted children, your sovereignly ruled-over kids. So, it’s not hard for us to break out into singing, “Praise God, from whom all blessings flow.” In that recent flow of grace, I thank you for…

Friends with whom to marinate in the Gospel, revel in your creation, get vulnerable and repentant, and bear one another’s burdens.

A few days away, in which the loudest thing I could hear was my tinnitus (ringing in my ears). How sweet not to hear traffic, constant clatter, noise, and news.

Thank you for making this line from “Joy to the World” come alive with fresh power. “Rocks, hills and plains repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy.”

Lastly, thank you for the biggest and most beautiful trout I’ve even caught. It wasn’t my angling, but your kindness So very Amen I pray, in Jesus’ most glorious and grace-full name.
