Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Col. 3:1-4

Lord Jesus, I couldn’t help it, and with no apologies. Remembering tonight is the evening when the State of the Union Address will be given in America, it made me think of the only “union” that gives any citizen of any nation true and lasting hope—our faith-union with you.

We will forever be mining, and enjoying, the riches of the good news that, as Paul writes in the passage, our lives are now “hidden” with you in God. That is, placed in the richest connection, and most unbreakable intimacy, imaginable.

Hallelujah, we have already begun eternal life! Though we await the resurrection of our bodies, we were co-crucified with you, buried, and raised to new life in you, Lord Jesus. We are presently sitting with you at the Father’s right hand. How can we possibly “wrap” our minds around this bold affirmation?

In union with you, we are forgiven, righteous, and beloved. Our hairs and days are numbered, and our tears are known and bottled. Nothing can separate us from God’s love or snatch us from your hand. Such peace…

And to think, there actually was a time when I thought the Christian life was simply God giving us a second chance at life. I am so glad our Father has left nothing to chance, but all things to you, Lord Jesus. Indeed, you are our life.

Since our lives are now hidden in you, free us to see heavenly beauty, think the thoughts of heaven, and live for the Day when God’s kingdom and glory will be fully revealed on earth. So very Amen we pray, in your awesome and beautiful name.
