Vs.1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
Lord Jesus, you are so many things to us—creator and redeemer, our perfect righteous and reigning king. But knowing you as shepherd—our Good Shepherd, is a most daily, hands-on, heart-engaged expression of your love. Your care is tender, and your presence is unrelenting. You give us everything we need, and withhold nothing necessary for our journey Home.
Vs.2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters.
Sometimes we don’t know our limits. Sometimes we are addicted to busyness and activity. Sometimes we are too afraid to stop. In these and other scenarios, you love us enough to stop us, and make us lie down. You take us to actual beautiful places for rest and nourishment. But anywhere you pour out your Spirit and give your palpable presence is green with grace. By the quiet waters in creation, and the gentling, centering, nourishing streams which run through the Gospel… de-noise and de-clutter our hearts Jesus. Bring quiet. Bring peace. Bring hope. Bring yourself.
Vs. 3 He refreshes my soul. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
Jesus, more money won’t do it. Control over people can’t give it. A new hobby, house, or lover; less hassles and more vacations; the adoration of boss, spouse, and kids… none of these can refresh us souls. Only you can Jesus, only you. Those things might be nice, but you are vital, Jesus. Lead us on the grace-paths to heart renewal and deep soul refreshment. Bring honor to yourself, in us and through us. So Very Amen, we pray.
