Seeing Jesus More Clearly to See Everything

What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said,Rabbi, I want to see.” Mark 10:51

Dear Jesus, you know our need before we ask. You’ve never offered a wrong diagnosis, and you’ve never been confused about the proper remedy. The Gospel is the eternal exhibit A of this. We were dead in our sin, and you raised us to newness of life. We had no righteousness, and you gave us yours. Thank you, and Hallelujah!

So, what do we want you to do for us now, Jesus? Like this blind man, we too want to see. We are afflicted with various forms of spiritual blindness, myopia, astigmatism, and heart-eye disease. First and foremost, we want to see you as you truly are. The better we see you the more we’ll see everything else as you intend. Jesus, show us your truth, goodness, and beauty with 20-15 clarity and knee-buckling wonder.

Then we’ll see ourselves as belonging to you, hidden in you, delighted in by you, and being kept for you. Jesus, free us from our Gospel-blindness, our shame-cataracts, and every diseased and distorted way we see ourselves.

We’ll see others not primarily as a threat or a means to a personal end, but as your image-bearers—whether they know your or not. We’ll see time as a gift to be stewarded and money as the currency of grace. We’ll see kindness as more beautiful than rightness, and humility as the conduit of your love.

We’ll see suffering as a normal part of life for we who live between your resurrection and return—normal, but with a secured expiration date. We’ll see history as your storyboard of redemption, and all of creation as a groaning, pregnant woman, eagerly anticipating the Day she gives birth to the new heaven and new earth (Rom.8:19-22). Jesus, we want to see, starting with you. So Very Amen.
