Savoring the Chocolate Truffles of the Gospel

May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance. 2 Thess. 3:5 (NIV)

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. 2 Thess. 2:16-17 (ESV)

May the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thess. 3:16 (NLT)

Heavenly Father, meditating on and praying these passages is like savoring the finest chocolate truffles ever created. They are filled with rich goodness and deeply-satisfying, peace-igniting hope.

The GPS of the gospel will always direct our hearts into more of your love, and the assurance of “Christ’s perseverance” (2 Thess. 3:5). We are grateful for the always-more-ness of your love, Father. And Jesus’ commitment to bring us Home—not our bare-knuckle-resolve, is the anchor of our hope. Your grace, not our grit, has secured heaven for us.

In fact, nothing we can do today will increase or diminish your love for us. This doesn’t mean you are indifferent, Father; rather it means we are fully and eternally accepted in Jesus. This frees us to live authentic, vulnerable, freedom-kissed lives, whomever we’re with. We don’t have to pretend, pose, or posture. Hallelujah.

And thank you for never being shocked or embarrassed by our fears, weaknesses, and struggles. Thank you for staying committed to finish your work in our lives, Father. As you have promised, so we will trust you for “peace at all times and in every situation” (2 Thess. 3:16). Guard our hearts with your Spirit, balance our stumbles with your hand, and calm our storms with your presence.

May your mercy, comfort, and encouragement run like a stream of kindness through us to others. Grant us words of hope for friends in various stages of weariness, stress, and struggle. Love through us to your glory, Father. So very Amen we pray, in the ever-kind, ever-powerful name of Jesus.
