Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline,

so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Rev. 3:19–20

Lord Jesus, every day we have the privilege of living the hymn “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go,” for you love us tenaciously and you pursue us constantly. As this passage underscores and highlights, you desire fellowship with us, and not occasionally but continually. Thank you.

In the gospel we enjoy eternal union with you, but for various reasons, we tend to flow in and out of vital communion with you. The sad thing is, sometimes we don’t recognize our heart drift for quite a while—days, even months. It’s usually the people around us who first recognize our being out of communion with you. Rich fellowship with you changes the way we relate to everyone.

Jesus, there’s no greater rebuke than to hear you knock on the door of our hearts, yet that knock comes like a kiss and caress. For you are the Bridegroom wooing his beloved bride. Forgive our busyness and unbelief, our preoccupation with lesser things and worry about many things. We should sooner forget to breath than to forget to be with you.

By faith we rise to greet you, this March Saturday. Come in, and let us feast and fellowship, Jesus. You are the Bread we need the most. You give living water that quenches our deepest thirst. Feed us by your Word, your presence, and Spirit. Renew and refresh us. Center and settle us. Being with you isn’t a “game changer,” it’s an everything changer.

Until the Day when daily fellowship with you finds its glorious fulfillment at the Wedding Feast, may we need to hear your knock on the outside of our heart’s door less often. So very Amen we pray, in your tender and triumphant name.
