Resting in God’s Faithfulness, Timing, and “Style Points”

“Don’t overlook this one fact, beloved—with the Lord one day is as a 1000 years, and 1000 years are like one day. The Lord isn’t slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but he is patient toward you”—and absolutely perfect in his plan, choices, and timing, 2 Pet. 3:8-9

Heavenly Father, thank you for being patient with our impatience, and forbearing when we get irritated. You’ve never been late for anything. “Swiss timing” is tardiness when compared to the precision of your right-on-time record. Jesus’ 2nd coming will happen on the Day determined before the world began—and how we long for that Day. No more knowing in part or loving in part; no more funerals or even goodbyes; no more broken hearts or broken anything; no more heartaches or even heartburn—no more turmoil, tariffs, tantrums, human trafficking or even bad traffic.

But Father your faithfulness isn’t just tied to the timing of the second coming, but to everything else you’ve promised as well. Indeed, there’s no confusion, panic, or second-guessing in heaven today. You’re not distracted or perplexed about anything—(that would be us, not you). Though it’s hard to understand why you haven’t answered some of our prayers with a quick and “hearty” “Yes!”, it’s NOT hard for us to trust you. You gave Jesus for our sins, certainly we can trust you to give us everything else we really need (Rom.8:32).

So, Abba, grant us grace for our waiting, strength in our weariness, and joy for our journey. Renew and increase our love for Jesus, and our Gospel-astonishment. Shock us by how much kindness you are willing to pour into our hearts. Make so non-reactive and gentle our spouses, kids, or friends will wonder what happened to us. That would truly be awesome! So Very Amen.
