Precious Partners and Partnership in the Gospel

I thank my God every time I remember you.

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Phil. 1:3-6

Heavenly Father, the phrase, “partnership in the gospel,” jumps out at me in this passage, this Saturday morning. I’d hate to live life alone; and how boring it would be to walk with people who only think about more money and quicker retirement.

I’m so grateful for the spiritual parents, “gospel-posse,” and grace-friends you’ve given me. May we continue to help each other come alive to the riches of the Gospel, the wonders of your love, and the glory of Jesus.

What a motley bunch we are. Some of us were well-loved and grounded in the faith as children. Others grew up in gospel-less religion or stone-dead churches. Some lived a life of cavalier hedonism before the Gospel became real and precious. We all equally needed and still need Jesus. You sought and found us; and you continue to pursue and free us. Thank you, Father.

As 2020 is just underway, deepen our commitment to live and love to your glory, and to finishing well—whether that’s twenty minutes or twenty years. Keep rescuing us from dreams that don’t include you, and a lifestyle that doesn’t require the Gospel. Thank you for freedom to both boast in Christ and in our weaknesses.

Thank you for promising to complete the good work you began in each of us—and in your whole cosmos. Nothing can separate us from your love, remove us from your family, or keep us from heaven. And though wars and rumors of wars persist, thank you for being sovereign over each moment and all rulers in every place. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ merciful and mighty name.
