Perpetual Invitation, Spirit Libation, Grace Hydration

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life. Rev. 22:17

Lord Jesus, will Punxsutawney Phil get it right today—Groundhog Day 2023? Here in Franklin, TN, it’s 31 degrees, with freezing rain; so an early Spring would be awesome. The “Spring” we crave the most, however, is your return, Jesus—the eternal end of “Winter,” and the forever-climate of everything perfect. No critter’s shadow will determine when the arrival of that Day. That’s left to our Father’s perfect discretion. But it’d be fine with us if it was, indeed, somewhere between 6 and 10 weeks.

But until then, we’re grateful the last command you left us with in the Scriptures is a perpetual invitation for us every day. “Come thirsty ones come. Come drink the free water of life—the living waters of my grace.” Jesus, your kindness and care are incomparable, always timely, and ever-needed. You satisfy us as no one and nothing else can.

On New Year’s Eve, most of us could not have imagined how thirsty (desperate) we’d be for living water this early in 2023. But here we are, panting like thirsty deer (Ps. 42:1), grateful and expectant as your beloved Bride. Satisfy us with your everlasting love, abiding peace, and deep heart-hope. Fill us with your Holy Spirit. Hydrate us with your grace. Come soon, Lord Jesus. So Very Amen.
