“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel… “No word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled. Luke 1:34–38 (NIV)
Heavenly Father, the one thing we share in common with Mary is awe-laced-with-unbelief, over the breath-taking, hope-pregnant promises you’ve made about Jesus.
We too say, “How will this be?” And we hear you answer back, from the Scriptures, “Nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 18:27). “No word from God will ever fail.”
Everything you’ve promised, with regard to Jesus, will come to pass (2 Cor. 1:21). Though in an entirely different way—as surely as you placed Jesus in Mary, you’ve done the same for us.
Christ in us is our sure and only hope of glory (Col. 1:27); and Christ is being formed in us (Gal. 4:19). One Day, we will be Jesus look-a-likes and love-a-likes (1 John 3:1-3; Rom. 8:29). One Day the entire earth will be filled with your glory (Hab. 2:14).
Thank you Father. This is really good news every year, but especially in 2020. For the rest of Advent, through Christmas, may we encourage each other, and all the more as we see this quintessentially-glorious Day approaching. So very Amen we pray in Jesus’ exalted and powerful name.
