More a “Flickering Candle” Than a “Roman Candle”?

He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. Isa. 43:2

Lord Jesus, thank you for presiding at a throne of grace, not a scorekeeper’s table. When we feel more like “flickering candles,” than July 4th Roman Candles, you give rest in our weariness, not lectures on discipline. Thank you.

On this April Thursday, we bring you our burdens and blah’s generated from:

Backwash Fatigue – A lot of the loss, stress, and damage from the past year is catching up with us. We wish “denial” worked; but it doesn’t. Help us accept the “okay-ness” of emotional and mental tiredness.

Old Wounds with Fresh Pain – Time alone heals nothing. Time plus your grace can heal a bunch of stuff. Heaven will heal everything. Help us accept the things we can’t change. Help us hope, because you are always at work for our good.

Gospel-Amnesia – Jesus, sometimes it’s easier to remember how people hurt us than how you love us. By the power of the Holy Spirit, keep us more aware of our beloved-ness in you, than everything broken around us.

Grace-Groaning – A portion of our internal discontent and disconnect is actually grace-produced. It’s a mercy, not a malady. By the Holy Spirit, we “groan inwardly and wait eagerly” for the fullness of your return (Rom. 8:18-27). Jesus, we don’t want to get over that restlessness. Keep us longing, expectant, and trusting. So very Amen we pray, in your kind and triumphant name.
