“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Jer. 31:3 (NLT)
Heavenly Father, you loved us before the world began. Before we showed promise or potential, you loved us. You never looked to what we would do for you, but only what you would do for us. And, oh, what you have done.
You sent Jesus into the world to us, and for us—not to help us with a “re-do,” but to resurrect us. His life of perfect obedience, and his death of perfect surrender, you now count as ours. We are legally, fully, irrevocably yours—children in whom you delight; daughters and sons you cherish.
Because of Jesus, your love for us is unwavering and unfailing. We cannot add to it, or take away from it. You will cease to be God before your affection for us will wane, wilt, or be withdrawn. This is true, make it real to us.
Even when you discipline us, it’s from a heart of compassion. You humble us, but never humiliate us. You shape us, but never shame us.
Father, may your love flow through us into our culture of hate, our communities of brokenness; and our circle of friends, desperate for hope and the aroma of grace. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ tender and triumphant name.
