“This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’” Zech. 8:23 NIV

Lord Jesus, every day we need to be reminded of where history is heading. For we’re forgetful and fearful people—way too easily impacted by the spin of pundits, banter of politicos, and the unbelief of our own hearts.

But this huge promise made through a minor prophet (Zechariah) is the major headline deserving our attention and passion. History is the unfolding story of your commitment to redeem your every-nation Bride; and, in time, to make all things new, right, and beautiful (Rev. 21:1-6).

This outcome isn’t merely a great possibility or even a grand probability; it’s a covenantal certainty. Nothing will keep you from filling the earth with your glory, beauty, and righteousness. Providence, not happenstance, rules over all things

Indeed, Lord Jesus, you are the fulfillment of everything in Zechariah’s vision. You are the “one Jew” he spoke about—the faithful remnant of Israel. You are the second Adam—the only Nazarene in whom there was no guile, sin, or unrighteousness. You are the Lord who became the Lamb—our substitute to trust before you are our model to follow.

We lay hold of “the hem of your robe” only because you have a firm grasp on us in the gospel. Jesus, in light of who you are and what you’ve already accomplished on our behalf, how can we not leap for joy, live in hope, and love with abandon? Send your Spirit, and stir up us.

Lord, we would love to experience a great gospel renewal in our hearts and churches, cities before your return. Why not us, Jesus, and why not now? Life is too short to fritter away on getting our way, when we can be living for your glory. Magnify your name in our hearts and midst. So very Amen we pray, in your most majestic and merciful name.
