The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 1 John 3:8

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Col. 2:15

“Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! Rev. 22:20

Lord Jesus, we are grateful for the hope of a world completely devoid of all sin, evil, and brokenness—of all “the devil’s work.” Though it will require your second coming, nonetheless, that Day will arrive as certainly as this day has.

The Day of no more door-step bombings or hostage taking; no more human slavery, drug addiction, or “adult entertainment”; no more cancer, car wrecks, or crises; no more greed, need, or deeds that bring harm; no more racism, rape, or rancor; no more broken people, places, or things … just beauty, in everyone in every place all the time.

Thank you, Jesus, for destroying the devil’s work, by your work on the cross. Satan’s crushed head, broken dominion, and sure demise are sweetness to our souls, peace in our storms, and power for our mission. Through your humility you humbled evil, and by your defeat you defeated darkness. Terror is now terrified of you. Though the devil is filled with fury, he’s on a short and unbreakable leash, knowing his time is short (Rev. 12:12).

We will not shrink back, cower, or fear. You have won the war, and you will win the remaining battles. As full as the world is with evil and devils, it will be filled thousands of times over with your presence and glory. As surely as you spoke the world into existence, you will usher in the eternal magnificence of the new heaven and new earth. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah!

Lord Jesus, we praise, bless, and adore you, for so great a salvation and so trustworthy a hope. We will seek to live this day in light of that Day. We cling to your promise, “Surely I am coming soon.” So very Amen we pray, in your exalted and majestic name.
