But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” Heb. 1:8–9

Lord Jesus, nothing impacts our lives more than how we think about you. This passage invites us into the throne room of eternity, where you are revealed as the most joyful King imaginable. This is incredibly encouraging to us. Elation, not vexation, best describes how you reign. Nothing is hard for you, nothing is impossible.

You delight to crush evil, and you rejoice in making all things new. Indeed, your kingdom is a kingdom of “righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17). The Father has placed the government of the entire cosmos on your shoulders, and your reign of grace and peace is expanding all the time. Truly, you are the joyful King of the ages (1 Tim. 1:17).

Thank you for asking our Father to give us, your church, the fullness of your joy (John 17:13). We’d be most grateful even for a healthy portion of it! Your joy is the fuel we need for doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God. More than ever, we eagerly await the Day of your return, Jesus.

At the cross, Satan was crushed under your feet; and according to Romans 16:20, he will soon be crushed under our feet. Meaning, our labors in you are never in vain. That will be the Day even we non-dancers will dance. Your throne will last forever and ever, and your Kingdom will never end. Hallelujah! So very Amen we pray, in your merciful and mighty name.
