The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born
today in Bethlehem, the city of David! Luke 2:11 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, it’s the day angels “harked,” shepherds ran, Mary treasured, and Herod dreaded. For God so loved the world, he gave you—our blessed Savior, Messiah and Lord. Great is our joy. and deep is our worship.
Tiny Bethlehem—the “house of bread” has delivered us bread from heaven. We were famished, binging at empty buffets. But you are the Bread of Life, and now we feast at the table of welcome, mercy, and grace. Hallelujah!
Israel’s beloved shepherd-king, came from the city named after him. But what King David could never be and do, you became for us. You are the Good Shepherd and Lamb of God—our perfect sacrifice and relentless advocate.
You are the King of all Kings, the Monarch of Mercy, the Governor of Grace, and the Prince of Peace. You defeated evil, saved us from our sins, and are making all things new. Merry Christmas, indeed.
You care for us with relentless compassion and tenderness—even as you rule over every crawdad, crisis, and king. The greatness of your government, and the growth of your peace, will never end. Only your kingdom is unshakable and everlasting. We are thrilled this is true, Jesus.
You are the resolve for all our fears, the answer to all our hopes, and the balm for all our aches. In you we have complete forgiveness, perfect righteousness, and Abba’s unwavering favor. We bow before you in joyful adoration and dance before you with unfettered jubilation.
As we celebrate your 1st Advent at the end of 2019, our passion for your 2nd Advent has greatly intensified. We crave the Day when every tear is wiped, death will be done, mourning will be gladness. How long, Lord Jesus? Make it be soon. So very Amen we pray, in your magnificent and merciful name.
