Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me:

to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ. Eph. 3:8 (NIV)

Heavenly Father, on this October Wednesday, we want to thank you for those who preach/teach/share the Gospel of your grace with us. Performancism, legalism, and moralism; self-help, religion and irreligion all failed us miserably. Only the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation (Rom. 1:16).

“Boundless riches” almost seems like an understatement, when we consider every good thing you’ve given us in the Gospel. Our guilt is gone, and our shame is shattered. We’re rooted in your love and standing in your grace. We’re clothed in Christ’s righteousness and rest in your forgiveness. We’ve been sealed by your Spirit and adopted as your beloved children. We have a living hope today, and a glorious future forever… and that’s just for starters!

Indeed, thank you for the servants of grace you’ve placed in our lives. May the Gospel stay precious and powerful in their hearts. May your love for them be 1000 times more compelling than the approval of people, and 10,000 times more impactful than the criticisms they endure.

May they tremble at your Word and boast in your Son. Keep them from taking credit on the days when “everything works,” and keep them from self-pity on the days when their thoughts are scrambled, and their words are halting. Help them love Jesus’ glory and his sheep more than they love their platforms and podcasts.

Protect them from the evil one, and free them from pride and shame. On a daily basis, grant them Gospel-sanity and quick repentances; and provide them with a trustworthy Gospel-posse and seasoned wise mentors. May we remain a prayerful and encouraging presence in their lives. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ exalted and loving name.
