But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us,

not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4–7

Heavenly Father, if I was into tattoos and this Scripture wasn’t so long, I might consider having it inked onto my body. The awesome news is, you’ve already written this truth on the hearts of your children with your hand of mercy and the indelible ink of grace.

Father, you are scandalously generous to us in Jesus—giving us what we could never deserve or earn. Your kindness and love appeared to us out of nowhere, like a giant full moon on the darkest of nights. We weren’t seeking you, you were seeking us—running to us, not to harm, but heal us; not to rebuke, but redeem us; not to shame us, but cherish us forever.

And what a “bath” in the gospel you gave us—washing us, once and for all through the new birth. Now you continue to renew, revive, and refresh us through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, poured forth like a healing waterfall.

All these blessings are freely ours because Jesus gave himself fully for our salvation. Now that you’ve justified us by your grace, the rest of our lives is defined by heirship and hope. Though we sometimes feel and act like fatherless, futureless orphans, nothing could be farther from the truth.

The saints in heaven are happier, but not more secure than us; more whole, but NOT more loved. You will finish the good work you’ve begun in us, and in the entire cosmos. Thank you Father. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ great and gracious name.
