God Himself: Our Greatest Delight and Deepest Satisfaction

Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26

Heavenly Father, as we marinate in Asaph’s exquisite words, and taste his heart of impassioned worship, our only response is to cry out, us too, Lord, us too. Always bring us back to the mathematics of mercy—faith calculating your incomparable worth, in a world of fool’s gold and temporal pleasures.

Continually grant us the perspective of eternity, that we might live our days in view of heaven’s hope and its matchless joys. Keep us gospel-sane—thinking with the mind of Christ, reasoning by the riches of grace, and choosing in view of the brevity of life.

Father, give us more satisfaction in yourself, than in any story we might write for myself, or any arrangement we can conceive of in life. Thank you for giving us many gifts to enjoy, but we want you to be the most gratifying feast of hearts—our portion and passion, our treasure and inheritance.

Forgive our ingratitude and envy. Free us from every sense of entitlement and demandingness. Heal our gospel-amnesia. How soon we forget that we are your children of delight… your daughters and sons of grace… those you have hidden in Christ—those you call Beloved.

Oh, blessed, loving, and merciful Father, we worship and adore you today, and forever. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ exalted and glorious name.
