Freedom from Our Navel-Gazing and “My-Nation” Preoccupation

“Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! And look! I will create Jerusalem as a place of happiness. Her people will be a source of joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and delight in my people. And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more.” Isaiah. 65:17–19

Heavenly Father, Isaiah’s vision of the “fullness” of Christmas boggles our minds and enlarges our hearts. It also free us from our “navel-gazing” proclivity, and our “my-nation” preoccupation—whatever passport we carry.

As the Father of joy, you will make us a people of never-ending gladness, who inhabit the entire Gospel-ized globe—as a reconciled, sin-free, loving every-nation family.

With Jesus’ 1st coming, your everlasting unshakable kingdom came near. Your redeeming hand and heart “set up shop” on earth—through a stable, cross, and empty tomb.

By Jesus’ 2nd coming, the “knowledge of your glory”—that now fills our hearts with your grace, will fill the entire earth with your presence. This is what history is all about—this story, and no other.

Until the Day you send Jesus back to finish making all things new, free us to live and love to your glory. Please do this, Father. May we live more on mission, and less in fear. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ triumphant and transforming name.
