“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered.

“Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:16-17 (NIV)

Heavenly Father, we do/will experience very difficult days in our journey Home, but we never experience Christ-absent ones. As you opened the eyes of a fearful King to see your hand and heart all around him, we ask you to do the same for us. Not only are “those with us more than those with them,” but greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).

May your perfect love drive out our fears, your peace that passes all understanding bring calm to our hearts, and your more than sufficient grace be more than enough for anything the devil (or anybody else) might throw at us.

When we’re tempted to doubt your awareness and care about our situations, all we have to do is remember the gospel. You’ve met our greatest need with your greatest gift. Jesus is our forgiveness and our righteousness, our hope of glory and our peace in life. Hallelujah!

But he’s also the Ruler of the kings of the earth, the lord of all crises and crickets, the sovereign over our sorrows and stories—the King over all people, places, and things. We’re not alone. We’re never alone or without an Advocate. Thank you.

Legions of angels answer his bidding, demons flee his presence, and hurricanes become breezes at his speaking. Father, we don’t ask for visions of horses and chariots of fire. Just show us more of Jesus. May his beauty, reign, love, and presence be more compelling to us than anything else. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ tender and triumphant name.
