Lord Jesus, there’s no greater honor and joy than knowing you. And there’s so much more of you to know. Forever, we’ll be exploring, learning, and savoring your glory and grace. That’s why the question you put to Pharisees, the day before your arrest, remains the most important question for us to ponder.
Who do we think you are, Jesus? You’re everlasting God, and we’re mere people. We’d despair if you were less, and we’re weary of pretending to be more. You’re Creator, Sustainer, and Restorer of all things.
You’re Alpha and Omega, and everything in between. Angels worship you and stars sing to you, birds of the air and flowers of the field depend on you.
You’re the Second Adam—our substitute in life and in death. You lived a life of perfect obedience, and died a judgment-exhausting death, both for us. By you, we’re completely forgiven; and in you, we’re declared perfectly righteous.
You’re our impassioned Bridegroom, and we’re your beloved Bride. You cannot love us more, and you’ll never love us less. We believe these things because the Bible declares them true; but take them deep, deep, deep into our hearts.
You’re the reigning and returning King—sovereign over days and demons, our joys and sufferings, every king and every crisis. Broken reeds love your appearing and demons tremble in your presence. Lord Jesus, you are all this and SO much more.
But what stuns us the most, as we ponder what we think about you, Jesus—what compels us to fall down before you in love and worship today, is to realize that you are always thinking about us.
We’re in your heart on your mind, all the time. You know us perfectly and delight in us fully. There’s not a moment you’re not praying for us, singing over us, and living in us. We’re stunned, humbled, and grateful. So very Amen we pray, in your holy and grace-full name.
