If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. Either way, Christ’s love controls us.” 2 Cor. 5:13-14

Lord Jesus, first of all, thank you for a new day—a day you have made, over which you totally rule, in which we will have plenty of motivation for being glad. If we were to make a list of reasons for circumstance-transcending gladness, your love would be 1, 2, and 3.

Meditating and praying my way through this brief passage from Paul fuels my craving to know you and your love more fully. “Christ’s love controls us”—Paul wasn’t merely “warmed,” inspired, encouraged, and grateful for your love; he was taken in and taken over. You answered his prayer to know how wide, long, high, and deep your love truly is (Eph.3:18-19). Do the same for us, Jesus.

What would that look like? Fellowshipping and walking with you would be our greatest joy. Your truth would define us more than people’s approval and the devil’s lies—much more than our fears, insecurities, and weaknesses. Your goodness would be our feast and freedom—the most satisfying reality in our lives. Your beauty would take our breath away, then give it back. It would capture our gaze, transform our lives, and compel us to live for your glory (Ps.27:4, Isa.33:17, 2Cor. 3:18).

All of this looks so inviting, Jesus—even if it’s a bit overwhelming. Deepen your Gospel-liberating, Spirit-surgery work inside us. Thank you, and So Very Amen.
