“Chillax,” Get Still, and Worship. God Is God

“My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” Isa. 46:10 (NIV)

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength1 Chron. 29:11-12 (NLT)

Heavenly Father, there are days when we the clay, presume to tell you the Potter, what to make, mold, and market. There are stories for which we the small-bit characters, want to dictate to you the perfect Author, the plot, tension, and resolution. There are circumstances in which we your subjects, want to order you our King, “off your couch” into action. Yet in our childishness, you remain kind, forbearing, and patient. Thank you.

We are thankful today for your “God-ness,” sovereignty, and rule. We’re grateful you’re the Alpha and the Omega, the A to Z. and everything in between. You’re never perplexed, informed, or shocked by anything. You don’t try to do stuff. You just do stuff. That is awesome, Father.

And we’re thankful you don’t answer all our prayers with resounding “Yes’s.” For your “No’s” are sweeter than our agendas, and wiser than our druthers. We’re grateful you don’t cater to our fancies, give into our whining, or share your throne with us, even for a nanosecond.

In our most gospel-sane moments, we trust you with everything we have and are—even though we get frustrated with your sense of timing, or question your goodness.

You will “make everything beautiful in its time” (Eccl. 3:11), and in time, you will make all things new (Rev. 21:5). Ahhh… and Hallelujah! You are God, the gospel is true, and Jesus is coming back. It is enough. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ triumphant and tender name.
