This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lam. 3:19-24 (NIV)

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isa. 26:3 (ESV)

We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. Psalm 39:6 (NLT)

Heavenly Father, some of us begin today with a “to do list” that rocks our peace, and mocks our ability to do it all. That’s what makes these Scriptures precious, timely, and necessary. Early today (and all day long) we want to remember what really matters, and Who matters the most.

Thank you for your steadfast, inexhaustible, peace-giving love. By the heartbeat of heaven, today isn’t about proving our worth by what we accomplish. It’s about knowing you, walking with you, and enjoying you. We won’t add an hour to our lives by stress and worry. We’ll actually rob the people we love.

Far better do to a few things well today with a non-anxious heart, than plow through our lists, treating people like projects and problems, or objects and obstacles. Help us remember, all day long, the only thing that counts is “faith expressing itself in love” (Gal. 5:6). Kindness trumps productivity. Because of the gospel, our “to love lists,” must matter more to us than our “to do lists.”

Father, you are our “portion”—that is, our joy, peace, and inheritance. So, we will hope in you today, not in people’s approval, a demand free life, or pride of accomplishment. Give us the power and wisdom we’ll need today to do what, indeed, needs to get done. But also grant us the grace we’ll need to live and finish this day with quiet and kind hearts. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ powerful and trustworthy name.
