“I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.” Isa. 43:25 NLT

Heavenly Father, it’s a heart-stunning joy to begin this September Sunday remembering your forgetfulness. It’s not that you have a memory lapse or amnesia, or just give us a “clean slate” every day. Far better, you promise never again to remember our sins against us.

The “data” is there, but will never be used to judge us. This is truly astonishing; but it’s also the Gospel, and makes Jesus the hero. For he took the judgment we deserve upon the cross—looking towards its outcome with a joy we cannot imagine (Hebrews 12:2).

But that’s not all. Because the Gospel is true, you now deal with us according to Jesus’ righteousness, and reward us according to his perfect obedience. You have filled our “slates” full of his perfection.

We are fully and eternally accepted in Jesus. You are totally satisfied with Jesus’ work on our behalf. It’s not cliché; it’s revolutionary to be able to affirm, “Jesus paid it all.”

Father, thank you for such a legal, lavish, life-giving salvation. Rescue us in those delusional moments when WE suffer momentary Gospel-amnesia; and let fear, performancism, and loving-poorly take over. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ great and grace-full name.
