A Week of Being Controlled by the Love of Jesus

“If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. Either way, Christ’s love controls us.” 2 Cor. 5:13-14

Lord Jesus, it’s another Monday. All week long, something or someone is going to get the primacy in our thinking and the best of our affections. Why not, as Paul states in this text, your love?

Oh, to be controlled by your love. Not merely “dazzled,” inspired, “warmed,” or encouraged—but taken in and taken over. It’s hard to imagine a more desirable condition, freer state, or crave-worthy way of life.

It would mean we would live free from people’s opinions, old regrets, and the lusts of our hearts. Unfazed by the “what if’s” or “if only’s” of life, we would live more boldly and love more deeply.

We wouldn’t be preoccupied with what might go wrong, or defined by things we did do wrong. We would be so present, at peace, and kind, people might think we’re a bit odd, or “angling” for something, or (like Paul), “crazy.” That’d actually be okay with us.

Lord Jesus may your love be so real and compelling to us this week, we’ll take things less personally, and your Kingdom more seriously. Help us see with your eyes, think with your mind, love with your heart, and serve as your hands. So very Amen we pray, in your bodacious and beautiful name.
