A Blue Lamborghini or a Gospel Heart?

“I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:13-14

Lord Jesus, we know this passage isn’t a “blank check,” with your signature already affixed, just waiting for us to fill in the purchase and amount. You’re not a “genie in a bottle granting wishes,” you’re our Shepherd-King on his throne, glorifying our Father… Hallelujah.

So as our work-week begins, there are some things we ask of you that aren’t in the category of a blue Lamborghini, a chalet in Switzerland; or a hassle-less, storm-less, pain-free life. But they are things we can’t/won’t do apart from you.

  • Jesus, may abiding in your love mean more to us this week than getting our way or having people “get us”
  • Enable us to think of you more highly and more often this week, Jesus, than we get irritated with people or resentful of circumstances
  • By the riches of grace and the power of your Spirit, free us to out-kind, out-encourage, and out-repent those with whom we live and work
  • May your beauty enthrall our hearts, your peace rule in our hearts, and your grace shape our words

That is a big list, Jesus, but things impossible for mere men and women, are possible with you. So very Amen we pray, in your merciful and mighty name.
