Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases. Ps. 115:3
“I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” Job 42:2
“I alone am God … Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.” Isa. 46:9-10
Heavenly Father, as we begin our week, we are grateful for these 3 voices of heaven’s perspective and Gospel-sanity. Two weeks out from the American presidential election, and we feel a bit wary, vulnerable, and on edge. We are thankful you’re not just sovereign, but our sovereign Father.
You were sovereign over King David’s challenged rule, crazy family, and personal failures. You were sovereign over Job’s conflicted faith, great loses, and prolonged waiting. You were sovereign over Isaiah’s politically-crazed world and exasperating ministry. With you, life is never random, but always redemptive—if we have eyes to see and a heart to trust. Father, give us both.
You are writing world history, and each of our stories, with the indelible ink of your grace. You have left nothing to chance, but all things to Christ. Jesus is our righteousness, peace, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
Continue to renew our thinking, gentle our hearts, and deepen our worship. Keep making the Gospel bigger and sweeter to us, especially these next two weeks. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ powerful and loving name.
