We helped to found The Gospel Coalition (TGC) in 2005 with three goals in mind: first, to articulate the gospel in a theologically rich way to demonstrate its relevance to all biblical revelation and to all peoples; second, to deepen thinking and living to “act in line with the truth of the gospel” (Gal. 2:14); and third, to spread this vision of ministry to churches around the globe.
We are so encouraged by you: current and next-generation leaders who are shaping a gospel-centered counter-culture for the common good—in the midst of an increasingly post-Christian society. We have all been formed by TGC’s vision for ministry, as God renews the church in North America and beyond.
We want to invite you to partner with us as TGC seeks to steward the opportunity to grow gospel-centered ministry around the globe. Let us explain why.
While TGC was founded as a renewal movement in a North American context, today international leaders are inviting our collaboration in their renewal as well. In today’s interconnected global church, TGC has quickly become a trusted authority for Reformed theology, ministry best practices, and congregational renewal.
We are helping shepherd and sustain this global renewal in four strategic ways:
1. We are helping TGC Councils form around the world. Groups in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, and Australia have formed independent Councils. These groups are reproducing what TGC has done in North America, but in their own context. In the years to come, we hope to see more groups adopt our Foundation Documents and identify with TGC’s vision of ministry.
2. We are targeting a growing global audience with our editorial content on the internet. With 22 million readers, TGC’s English-language site is accessed around the globe—with Sydney, London, and Singapore being top international traffic centers. Our Spanish-speaking partner site, Coalición por el Evangelio, today has more than 700,000 readers. Likewise, our French colleagues have a growing readership on their site, Évangile 21.
3. We are expanding our International Outreach effort. Today, we partner with translators, publishers, mission networks, and volunteers to provide indigenous pastors in more than 130 countries with free gospel-centered books translated into their own languages. With Packing Hope volunteers bringing books around the world, our cost of delivery is less than $2 per book. We are growing our theological famine relief efforts in 2015, and our goal is to deliver 1 million printed books to indigenous pastors by 2020.
4. We are growing our Global Resource Library on the web. We translate sermons and articles of trusted authors into 40 languages: especially Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, and Arabic. These digital resources have been accessed more than 50,000 times in 2014. We will add thousands of resources in 2015, especially in our all-Spanish library.
We are extremely excited by the potential to help Christian leaders in the Global South. Seventy-five percent of our Christian brothers and sisters live in Africa, Asia, and South America—where less than 20 percent of pastors have seminary training.
For many, TGC is their primary resource for ministry best practices and theologically sound digital content and books.
As we all seek to renew our faith in the gospel of Christ, and reform our ministry practices to conform fully to the Scriptures, would you join us in spreading this renewal to the nations?
