Trusting Jesus with Decisions in Front of Us

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Prov. 3:5–6 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, as we start this May Monday, many of us are staring decisions in the face. It’s a joy to come to the occupied throne of grace—confident of your welcome, grateful for your advocacy, and trusting in your sovereignty.

You are an involved Shepherd, not an absentee landlord. Even as we make plans in our hearts, you are actively ordering our steps (Prov. 16:9). This brings us immeasurable peace. You open doors no one can shut (Rev. 3:8), and you shut doors no one can open. May we never forget that our future is not tied to making the right decisions, but in trusting the right Lord. And that is you, Jesus.

Because of your great love for us in the gospel, we give you our longings, hurts, and hopes. In surrender to your loving heart and powerful hand, we anticipate straight paths as we move forward.

Some of us are facing decisions for our families. Things like long-term care for aging parents, education choices for kids, sabbatical planning, and downsizing for the future. Give us peace in these decisions, Jesus.

Some of us sit on boards tasked with making important decisions. Grant us good listening, wise conversation, unity in our decisions. May we choose long-term fruitfulness over short-term relief.

Some of us are dealing with job changes and financial stresses, health issues and important hires. Help us be more proactive than reactive. May faith trump our fears.

Some of us are restless about how best to invest our hearts, time, and future. Are we spending ourselves on what really matters, Jesus? Help us choose influence over affluence, servanthood over acclaim, and your kingdom over our anything. Lead us, Lord.

In these coming hours and days, reveal your glory and showcase your grace, Jesus. Leave us reveling in your goodness and resting in your sovereignty. So very Amen we pray, in your trustworthy and beautiful name.
