“I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”  John 14:13

Lord Jesus, of course, this most generous promise can be misunderstood and abused. You’re not our private Genie giving us three wishes. You’re our sovereign Master, numbering our days, hairs, and tears. Hallelujah!

That being said, you greatly delight in us trusting you for Spirit-workings and grace-provisions that will bring glory to our Father and you. So here we come.

On this July Wednesday, we don’t ask for condos, cars and cash, or acclaim, appreciation, and applause. Jesus, re-astonish our hearts with your beauty, love, and grace. Cause our knees to buckle with wonder at a faith-sighting of you in the Scriptures. Our hearts to beat with great peace and joy from you. And may our whole inner life be utterly satisfied in you. We ask this in your name, Jesus.

We want to be able to say with the Psalmist, “Who do we have in heaven but you, Jesus? And being in rich fellowship with you makes all other earthly desires shrink to their proper size—even disappear.”

Jesus, we also ask for you to capture the hearts of family members and friends who don’t know you, and know they don’t; those who think they know you, but really don’t; and those who have drifted or run away from you—in anger, indifference, or busyness. Lord of the nations, be the treasure of these we love. So very Amen we pray, in your holy, joyful, sovereign name.
