“Your eyes will see the king in his beauty and view a land that stretches afar” (Isa. 33:17). “Of the Son (Jesus) he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.. God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” (Heb. 1:8–9).

Lord Jesus, the funeral of a Queen has fueled our adoration and love for you. When Queen Elizabeth’s crown, scepter and orb were placed on the altar at Windsor, I felt sadness for the family and the UK, for their loss is great. Then a hush, peace, and joy began to swell in my heart.

It was a striking, timely reminder that all earthly power is delegated from heaven, and returns the very moment God so decrees. Seeing the tokens of authority placed on the alter table, I remembered the Day on the calendar of sovereignty that we long for more than ever.

One blessed Day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that you, Jesus, are King of kings and Lord of lords (Phil. 2:10-11; Rev. 19:11). The government of the cosmos already rests on your shoulders. You are ruler of the kings of the earth—no exceptions (Rev. 1:5). Everything in creation and history, in heaven and on earth, exists by you and for you (Col. 1:15-20).

And wonder of wonders—astonishment of all astonishments, you died to make us yours, Jesus. The delight you have in us (right now) as your Bride equals the love you have for your (our) Father. Your joy is perpetual, your beauty is unparalleled, and it is us you love. Lord Jesus, until you return, free us more fully and more joyfully to live and love to your glory. So VERY Amen.
