I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them. Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods. Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. Psalm 16:2-5 (NLT)

Dear heavenly Father, as I meditate on these words of David, my simple response is simply, “Amen, amen, and amen.” You are my Master; thankfully you are, and not sin or death, my whims or lusts, or a multitude of other empty gods. And what a Master you are—you created us for life in a garden paradise and intimacy with yourself, and you have redeemed us for an eternal life beyond our greatest imagining.

Indeed, every good thing I have comes from you—the fountain of pleasure and delights, the wellspring of joy and satisfaction, the God from whom all blessings flow, not drip or trickle! You give cheerfully, not begrudgingly; you love lavishly, not reservedly; you redeem fully, not partially. In your time, and in your way, you will make all things new and all things beautiful.

Of all the inheritances my tempt-able, wandering heart might run after, you alone are to be desired and treasured. Compared to you, all other gold is fool’s gold, all other currencies are counterfeit, all other riches are rubbish, and all other treasures are trash. By the grace and truth of the gospel, you have changed all the price tags in my life. Life is Christ, and death is gain; boasting in weakness is freedom, posing and pretending are slavery; humility is the way up, pride is the way down.

Because of the cup you gave Jesus to drink, our cup is now a bottomless cup of grace. Hallelujah, what a Savior! Hallelujah, what a salvation. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ wonderful and merciful name.
