A Prayer About “Blessing” God
To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen Jude 24-25
Most gracious Father, I want to live this new year, not asking you for more blessings, but by “blessing” you-by bestowing on you the praise, honor, and thanks of which you alone are worthy. For you’ve already blessed me, and all my brothers and sisters, with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Eph. 1:3). That’s why I join the Psalmist in declaring, “Bless the Lord, oh my soul; all that is within me, bless his holy name” (Psalm 103:1).
All year long you will prove your covenant and capacity to keep me from falling away from you. Though I may falter in the journey, the grasp of your grace is secure. Though I may waver in my affections and faithfulness to you, you will not disown me in disgust. Rather, you will discipline me in love. I bless you for being the perfect Father to your children.
All year long you will be at work preparing me for the Day when I come into the undiminished unfiltered glory of your presence. If this should be the year in which you call me “home,” herein lies my humble confidence: I will stand before you without fault because you’ve placed me in the faultless righteous One, Jesus. My hope is built on nothing else, nothing less, and nothing more than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
That’s also why I will stand before you with great joy, for your joy is my strength… your great delight in me is the occasion of my great delight in you… your rejoicing over me with singing is why I will sing the new song of the gospel, even in the face of my death. I bless you for being the perfect Savior to your people.
Indeed, you are the only God, the only Savior… to you “be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!” So very Amen, I pray, in Jesus’ name.
