A Prayer About Hope Setting

A Prayer About Hope Setting
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:13
Heavenly Father, you just won’t let me get away from your grace for one minute, will you? And let me hasten to say, thank you, thank you, thank you that it’s so.
How I praise you for the day you finally convinced the legalist and the leper in me that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone. How I praise you for the ongoing schooling in the sufficiency of your grace for everything broken in my life-broken relationships, broken health, broken promises, broken church, broken me…
And now I praise you for a command that demands the setting of my hope on yet-to-be-received grace-the unleashed fullness, the unfiltered wonder, the unabated glory of your contra-conditional love for us in Jesus. Help me to remember that the command to set my hope is just as much a command to be obeyed as, “Do not lie, do not steal, and do not covet.”
Loving Father, you are so wise and kind, for you know that if I do not intentionally and fully set my hope on your grace-present and future grace, I will set my hope somewhere else-on people who will disappoint me, on some pseudo-gospel that cannot deliver me, or on my own devices and energies, which will invariably fail me.
Lord Jesus, I have never so looked forward to the Day when you will be fully revealed-when the firstfruits of grace will give way to the full harvest of grace. I am greatly heartened to know that you are presently making all things new, but I am exhilarated to know that you will bring your work of redemption and restoration to completion-in me and in the entire cosmos. So I choose to live today prepared for action, controlled by the gospel, and with my hope set, as fully as I can set it, on your grace. So very Amen, I pray, in your trustworthy name.
