The Attractiveness of Being Biblical

I know that there are some who read this blog who are pastors or member of churches that are relatively small.  Oftentimes they labor in a community where there may be some larger churches that are not reflecting the type of biblical faithfulness that is expected.  After all, they are trying to reach people!

Here at Omaha Bible Church we have recently seen a fair number of people express somewhat surprising reasons for joining us.  We recently had to deal with a couple of church discipline issues on a Sunday morning.  From that particular meeting we have had several folks say that they decided to stay at OBC because they knew that were serious about being biblical.  Others have said that they were attracted to this ministry because of the priority of expository preaching.  Still others have come because of our refusal to put ecumenicalism above the gospel.  And we could list several other things.

All of this to say, there is an attractiveness to believers inherent in aiming to be biblical.  We here are obviously not perfect; we know this.  But the posture has to be one of being biblical.  This is attractive to those whom Christ is the chief shepherd (John 10.27).

Be encouraged to be biblical.  God will draw his people through his means.  You are, at the end of the day, aiming to be found faithful (1 Cor. 4.2).  You want to draw people to be impressed with Christ’s beauty.  You want the church to be one that trembles at God’s word (Is. 66.2).
