Should the Gospel Make You Happy?

This past week I studied and preached from Colossians 1.13-14.  I was struck in my preparation about the way this text flew out of the context of walking in a manner that pleased the Lord (Divine Pleasure), part of which is our own pleasure, “…joyously giving thanks to the Father…” (Col. 1.11-12).  What then follows is a reminder of what believers have been saved from (the domain of darkness) and saved to (the kingdom of His beloved Son).

I love how the realities of the gospel unite the pleasure of God and man so gloriously.   Furthermore, I love how God is so faithful to remind me of how bad and hopeless I was apart from Christ that he might show how glorious my union with Christ, the beloved Son, truly is.

So yes the gospel should make and keep you happy, because it is true.  We just need to believe it, remind ourselves of it, and live it out.
