Biography

Pastor Andrus, came to know Christ personally as a boy of five, led by his father to an understanding of his own sin and the meaning of Christ’s death and resurrection.  Growth was slow but steady throughout his youth and teen years.  Pastor Andrus’ father was a pastor and an educator and their family was always involved in solid evangelical churches.  In addition he enjoyed some life-changing Christian camping experiences. 

Pastor Andrus felt a definite call to a ministry of teaching when in the second grade and never doubted that call.  While he did make a significant change from the academic world to local church ministry in 1975, he still believes that his call to teach is basic to God’s claim on his life.

Pastor Andrus is married to Jan, and they have two children: Eddie and Andy.

Thabiti Anyabwile, Senior Pastor, is a native of Lexington, North Carolina (U.S.).  He is the happy husband of Kristie and the adoring father of two daughters, Afiya and Eden, and son, Titus.  He began serving as elder/senior pastor in August 2006. He served previously as an elder/assistant pastor at Capitol Hill Baptist Church (Washington, DC) and as an elder at Church on the Rock (Raleigh, NC). Thabiti holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in psychology from North Carolina State University. A former high school basketball coach and bookstore owner, he enjoys preaching, reading, sports, and watching sci-fi films.

Biography

Alistair Begg has been in pastoral ministry for over 30 years; eight in Scotland following graduation from The London School of Theology, and 24 years at Parkside Church in suburban Cleveland.  He has written several books and is heard daily across the nation on the radio program, Truth for Life.  He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cedarville University.  He and his wife, Susan, have been married 32 years and have grown three children.

Pastor Brown was born in Yadkinville, North Carolina, (population 1,300) on November 7, 1953.  After graduating from high school, he attended and graduated from The Citadel in 1976 with a B.A., History.  He then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, from 1978 to 1982 and earned my M.Div. in 1981.  While there, he lived in Denton, Texas, and married Sara Marxen on June 27, 1980.  They now have two children: Zack, born November 1984; and, Anna-Kathryn, born September 1988.  He enjoys camping, reading, sports and Clemson jokes.

Pastor Brown has served as a Journeyman Missionary with the International Mission Board of the SBC in Singapore from 1976 to 1978; as a Church Planter in Farmington, New Mexico, during the summer of 1977; and was Minister to College Students at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Denton, Texas, ministering to students at North Texas State University and Texas Women’s University from 1978 to 1982. 

Pastor Brown’s desire is to see men and women brought to full stature and maturity in Christ, and to live, teach and mentor/disciple in such a way that the future generations are more godly than present generations.  He also longs to see people develop a world and life view that allows them to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Mike responded to a gospel invitation as a young boy and was led at that time by his father to put his trust in Christ. He is very grateful for the legacy of faith he has received.  “I want there to be a genuine and growing passion for God’s glory that characterizes my life. For many years now I have resonated with Paul’s desire expressed in Philippians 1:20 – ‘as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.’?

Prior to leading the launch of CrossWay Community Church in 1998, Mike served for 15 years as an Associate Professor of Homiletics (preaching) and Pastoral Theology, as well as chairman of the Practical Theology Department at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL.
Mike earned a diploma in Bible -Theology at Moody Bible Institute and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. He then earned a Master’s of Divinity and a Master’s of Theology from Trinity, followed by a Ph.D. in Rhetorical History and Criticism from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Mike, a Kenosha native, lives in his childhood home with his wife, Beverly, and their three children, Abigail, Madeline, and Graham.

Dr. Cannada is Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Reformed Theological Seminary—an institution dedicated to the theological education of pastors and leaders for ministry in the church.  RTS began classes in 1966 and is fully accredited nationally by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada and regionally by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  It is also one of the dozen largest seminaries in North America with a current combined enrollment of over 2500 students from over 60 denominations, and a combined faculty of approximately 50 full-time professors with diverse denominational backgrounds and entirely committed to the inerrancy of Scripture and Reformed theology.
As Chancellor & CEO, Dr. Cannada provides leadership to five residential campuses in Jackson, MS; Orlando, FL; Charlotte, NC; Washington, D.C.; and Atlanta, GA; a degree-granting Virtual Campus (distance education) based in Charlotte, NC; and three international Doctor of Ministry degree programs in Korea, Scotland, and Brazil.
Known personally as Ric, Dr. Cannada is a native of Jackson, MS, and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Vanderbilt University (Phi Beta Kappa) where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.  He completed his post-graduate studies at RTS receiving the degrees of Master of Divinity in 1973 and Doctor of Ministry in 1995.
Ric’s service to the Lord also includes twenty years of experience as a Presbyterian pastor.  After receiving his Master of Divinity degree, he served at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, SC, for three years.  In 1976, he moved to Little Rock, AR, to plant and develop Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served for ten years.  Ric was Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Macon, GA, from 1986 to 1993.
In 1993, Dr. Cannada accepted the position of Senior Vice President to provide leadership for the development and establishment of the RTS—Charlotte campus in NC.  He was named Executive Vice President of RTS in 1998 and President of RTS in 2002. He became RTS Chancellor and CEO in 2004 when the seminary restructured to establish presidents on each campus under Ric’s overall leadership.

Ric and his wife Rachel (formerly Rachel Earhart) are proud parents of Mrs. Beau Burrow (Christy) and Mrs. Bryan Rutledge (Ceci).  They are also blessed grandparents of six grandchildren:  Hollis, Courtney and Rebecca Burrow and Maggie and Rachel and Christy Rutledge.

D. A. Carson is research professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He has been at Trinity since 1978.

Carson came to Trinity from the faculty of Northwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he also served for two years as academic dean. He has served as assistant pastor and pastor and has done itinerant ministry in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Carson received the Bachelor of Science in chemistry from McGill University, the Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Seminary in Toronto, and the Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament from the University of Cambridge.

Carson is an active guest lecturer in academic and church settings around the world. He holds membership on the Council for the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals. Carson and his wife, Joy, reside in Libertyville, Illinois. They have two children. In his spare time, Carson enjoys reading, hiking, and woodworking.

Anthony Carter currently serves as the lead pastor of a new church plant in the Atlanta area, East Point Church.

He has a BA from Atlanta Christian College and an MABS from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL. Besides being the lead pastor of East Point Church, he also serves as Associate Pastor at Southwest Christian Fellowship in Atlanta GA.  Anthony frequently travels as a conference speaker and guest lecturer. Anthony lives in Jonesboro, GA where he and his wife, Adriane, are raising their 5 children.

Dr. Chapell has served as President of Covenant Seminary since 1994. He began teaching at Covenant Seminary in 1984 after ten years in pastoral ministry. Before becoming President, he served for six years as Vice President for Academics and Dean of Faculty. He is much sought after as a speaker in churches and conferences around the country. Christ-Centered Preaching has established him as one of the nation’s most recognized teachers of homiletics. Dr. Chapell teaches the introductory homiletics courses and several practicums, giving every MDiv student the opportunity to study under him.

Steven J. Chin is the Senior Pastor at the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church, the largest Asian church in New England with over 1200 adults meeting in six worship services using English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
He was born in Boston and grew up in Cambridge where his father operated a laundry. Steven did not grow up with any Christian influence, but, in early adolescence, he became a Christian in a process that began with some neighbors inviting him to attend a Baptist church.
Steven went on to college at New York University where he earned a BE in Industrial Engineering. It was during college that he came to dedicate his life to the Lord and began to attend a Chinese church in New York’s Chinatown. He also received his MS in Industrial Engineering at Polytechnic University and his Master in Public Administration at New York University.

After working as a Senior Health Planner for the Mass. Dept. of Public Health, he switched careers to serve in church ministry. Steven received his training from Dallas Theological Seminary, earning his MA in Biblical Studies and later his Master of Theology. He has served on the staff of the Boston Chinese Evangelical Church since 1977 beginning as Assistant to the Pastor. He was ordained and installed by the church as Associate Pastor in 1984 and became Senior Pastor in 2000.
Steven has been married to Nancy since 1976 and has two adult children, Stefanie and Matthew. He enjoys playing basketball and following the Celtics, Patriots, and the Red Sox.

K. Edward Copeland is a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ who has been blessed with several gifts and skills.  He is a musician, composer, preacher, attorney and author.  He is most widely known, however, for his unique gift to teach the Bible with clarity and simplicity.

K. Edward Copeland currently serves as senior pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Rockford, IL.  He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California at Berkley and a Masters of Divinity from Golden Gate Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, CA.  He is the author of “Riding in the Second Chariot” a guidebook for associate ministers and ministry leaders.  He has been a lecturer for the National Baptist Convention of USA, Inc. Congress of Christian Education, Church of God in Christ (Illinois 5th Jurisdiction West), National Black Gospel College Choir Workshop (Atlanta, GA), T.H. Wade Christian Education Institute (Chicago, IL), W.H.W. Expository Sermon Techniques Conference (Los Angeles, CA), Iron Sharpens Iron Conference (Chicago, IL), Excellence in Ministry Conference (Oklahoma City, OK), Minister and Pastor’s Workshop (Austin, TX), University of Illinois Black Sacred Music Symposium (Champaign, IL), National Evangelism Team (NET), and the Institute Preacher.

Dr. Davis was born in Boston, Massachusetts where he later earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 1984. He then began his career as a Mechanical Engineer with Eaton-Nova Corporation in Beverly, Massachusetts. He was married to Christine Lee Rogers on Mar 14, 1988, and they have two sons and three daughters.

Dr. Davis started his seminary training while working as an engineer and earned his Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1990. In 1992, Dr. Davis resigned from his engineering position to pastor the New Meadows Baptist Church in Topsfield, Massachusetts. In 1994, the Davis family followed the call of the Lord to Tokushima, Japan, where they were involved in church planting through the International Mission Board. In 1998, Dr. Davis graduated from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, with a Ph.D. in Church History.

In October of 1998, Dr. Davis accepted a call to be the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church, Durham, NC.

Mark Dever serves as the senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Since his ordination to the ministry in 1985, Dr. Dever has served on the pastoral staffs of four churches, the second being a church he planted in Massachusetts. Prior to moving to Washington in 1994, Dr. Dever taught for the faculty of Divinity at Cambridge University while serving two years as an associate pastor of Eden Baptist Church.

In an effort to build biblically faithful churches in America, Dr. Dever serves as the executive director for 9Marks Ministries (formerly The Center for Church Reform, CCR) in Washington, D.C. 9Marks Ministries encourages pastors of local churches look to the Bible for instruction on how to organize and lead their churches. Dr. Dever also teaches periodically at various conferences, speaking everywhere from South Africa to Brazil to the United Kingdom to Alabama. Feeling a deep burden for student ministry, Dr. Dever often addresses student ministry groups at campuses throughout the country. He has also taught at a number of seminaries, including Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, AL, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. Dr. Dever’s scholarly interests include Puritanism and ecclesiology.

Dr. Dever currently serves as a trustee of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; he also serves as a member of the board, vice-chairman, and chairman of the Forum for the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals. From 1995 until 2001, he served on the steering committee for Founders Ministries, a pastoral movement for biblical teaching and healthy church life within the Southern Baptist Convention. As Guest Senate Chaplain for two weeks in 1995, Dr. Dever opened the daily sessions of the United States Senate in prayer. He is a member of the American Society of Church History and the Tyndale Fellowship. He also held the J.B. Lightfoot Scholarship at Cambridge University from 1989 to 1991.
He and his wife Connie live and minister with their son, Nathan, on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

J. Ligon Duncan III is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. He is a graduate of Greenville Senior High School (1979), Furman University (1983 BA History), and Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis, (1986 MDiv; 1987 MA Historical Theology). Upon graduation, he was presented Covenant Seminary’s J. Oliver Buswell Award for Church History and Systematic Theology. He studied Systematic Theology at the Free Church of Scotland College under Professor Donald Macleod (1988-1990) and earned the PhD (Ecclesiastical History and Systematic Theology) at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1995.

Duncan served on the staff of The Covenant Presbyterian Church of St. Louis from 1984-1987. While in Britain (1987-1990), he regularly supplied pulpits in churches of the Presbyterian Association of England, Church of Scotland, and Free Church of Scotland. In 1990 Duncan he was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and joined the faculty of Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Jackson, Mississippi where he was Chairman of the Department of Systematic Theology, and the John R. Richardson Professor of Theology. At RTS he was responsible for teaching courses such as Systematic Theology, Ethics, Apologetics, History of Philosophy and Christian Thought, Covenant Theology, Patristics, Evangelism, and Theology of the Westminster Standards. He was also Assistant to the Pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Mississippi (1990-1995), and in 1993 served as Interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Yazoo City, Mississippi. He became the Senior Minister of historic First Presbyterian Church, Jackson in 1996.

Duncan is an active churchman and has been involved in the courts of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) in various ways for many years. He is a past moderator of the Presbytery of Calvary (South Carolina Upcountry), and of the Presbytery of the Mississippi Valley (October 2000-February 2001). At the annual denominational meeting, held in June of 2004, he was elected the Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCA (2004-2005). Duncan is also active in a number of professional societies including the Scottish Evangelical Theology Society and the Rutherford House Fellowship in Britain. Here in the U.S. he is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, the North American Patristic Society, the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, the National Association of Scholars as well as the South Carolina Historical Society.

Biography

Joshua Harris followed his dad Gregg Harris, a well-known leader in the homeschooling movement, into public speaking as a teenager. He was publishing a magazine and conducting conferences for teens when he met C.J. Mahaney, then the senior pastor of Covenant Life Church. Motivated by a desire to be mentored and a growing conviction about the importance of the local church, Josh moved from Portland, OR, where he’d grown up, to Maryland to serve as a pastoral intern at the church. Later that same year his first book, I Kissed Dating Goodbye was released. 

In 1999, Joshua founded New Attitude—a worship and teaching gathering for young adults. The mission of the conference is to spread the message of humble orthodoxy—a commitment to believe, live and represent biblical truth with humility. The conference has run ever since (with a break in 2005) and is now led by Josh’s friend and fellow-pastor, Eric Simmons.

Josh assumed the role of senior pastor at Covenant Life in 2004. He loves the people of the church and hopes to grow old preaching God’s word there. He serves alongside an incredible team of eighteen other pastors who he counts his dearest friends. Together with the people of Covenant Life they’re seeking to build a gospel-centered and gospel-proclaiming body that makes disciples and loves and serves the community around them.

Joshua is the author of several books including his latest, “Stop Dating the Church.” He’s currently working on his fifth book title, “Humble Orthodoxy.”

In addition to being a member of The Gospel Coalition, Joshua serves on the Sovereign Grace Ministries Leadership Team and the Council for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.

David Helm is Pastor of Holy Trinity Church. His pastoral duties are primarily focused in vision casting, preaching, and writing. He earned a BA from Wheaton College (in Communications) and he was ordained in the PCA after graduating from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1988. He authored the Big Picture Story Bible and co-authored The Genesis Factor. In addition to his duties at Holy Trinity Church, David serves as the Executive Director of the Charles Simeon Trust. His current writing projects include a commentary on I, II Peter and Jude (Preaching the Word series, due out in April).

David and his wife, Lisa, have five children (Noah, Joanna, Baxter, Silas and Mariah) and reside in the Hyde Park neighborhood. In his spare time, he generally roots for the Chicago White Sox and enjoys Johnny Cash.

David Horner is the senior pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he served since the church began in 1978.  A graduate of Wake Forest University (BA, 1974) and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (M. Div., 1977), David’s primary ministry focus has been equipping others for ministry, with in the local congregation as well as in the broader body of Christ.  Through expositional preaching and teaching, he devoted himself fully to a ministry of the Word of God. 

David is the founding pastor of Providence, which was established October 1, 1978, and he has served as the senior pastor ever since. A native of Graham, N.C., he received a Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University and also holds a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  David is also an international speaker and a trustee of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He and his wife, Cathy, have been married since 1973 and have three grown sons, Jeff (married to Elizabeth), Scott and Jon.

Pastor Kent Hughes has recently retired from his responsibilities as Senior Pastor of College Church of Wheaton—a post he has held since 1979.  He has served as the Senior Editor for Christianity Today, the Board of Americans United for Life (the legal arm of the pro-life movement), the Board of Trustees of World Radio Missionary Fellowship (HCJB), and the board of Operation Mobilization.  Pastor Hughes is presently a member of the Board of Crossway Books.  He still speaks regularly around the country at various conferences.  He is the editor to the Preach the Word series, and has authored nearly twenty books.

Pastor Hughes enjoys fishing, playing tennis, and running.  Has a large library, reads widely, and has a particular interest in the history of preaching.

Dr Gary Inrig serves as senior pastor of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Redlands, California.  A native of Canada and a graduate of the University of British Columbia (B. A.) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Th. M., D. Min.), he has been in pastoral ministry for more than thirty years, having pastored for seventeen years at Bethany Chapel in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; at Reinhardt Bible Church in Dallas, Texas for three years, and since 1992 at trinity Church, Redlands.  He taught for three years at what is now Providence College and Seminary in Manitoba, and has since served as a visiting or adjunct faculty at several seminaries and Bible colleges in North America.  He has had an extensive conference ministry in the United States and Canada, and has spoken in countries on each of the continents.

His wife Elizabeth serves alongside him at Trinity Church, as director of Women’s Miniseries, and also serves as National Director of Women’s Ministries for the Evangelical Free Church of America.  The Inrigs have three married children and four grandchildren.  Elizabeth, who holds a D. Min. degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, is the author of Releasing Your Potential.

Keller was raised in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, and holds degrees from Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary, where he received his D.Min.  Pastor Tim became a Christian at Bucknell owing to the ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, with which he later served as a staff member.  He was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and served as a pastor in Virginia for nine years, while also serving as director of church planting for the PCA.  He also served on the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he and his wife Kathy were involved in urban ministry, and he continues as an adjunct professor of practical theology.  Keller lives on Roosevelt Island in New York City with his wife and their three sons David, Michael, and Jonathan.

In 1989, Keller was asked by the PCA to start Redeemer despite his relative lack of experience.  The church grew from 50 people to its current attendance of nearly 5000.  His target audience consists mainly of urban professionals, whom he believes exhibit disproportionate influence over the culture and its ideas.  Redeemer started a church-planting center in 2001 and has helped start over 100 churches of various denominations in the New York City area and around the world.  Redeemer, according to Christianity Today, is “one of Manhattan’s most vital congregations” and, according to a 2006 survey of 2000 American church leaders, is the sixteenth most influential church in America.

Paul Y. Kim has been the Senior Pastor of Open Door Presbyterian Church since 1991.  In that time, what was once known as Korean Orthodox Presbyterian Church with a Korean immigrant congregation of 250 members and a handful of English speaking 2nd generation Koreans, grew into one of the truly interdependent Korean churches in the country.  Currently, the immigrant congregation numbers close to a 1000 and the English speaking, 2nd generation Korean American congregation has grown to 250 members.  The church was renamed Open Door two years ago to reflect the church’s growing expansion beyond the Korean Immigrant population.  Today, the name, Open Door, has become for the church a rallying cry as it tries to live out the vision of being “An open door to a life changing grace,â€? particularly in the Asian American setting. 

He is a board member of Catalyst Inc, an Asian American Ministry Leadership Board, since 1991.  Pastor Paul is also a board member of Operation Mobilization since 1993.

Pastor Kynes is the senior pastor of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Annandale, VA, where he has served since 1986. He and his wife Susan have four boys: Will, Matthew, Cameron, and Cason.

Bill grew up in Tampa, FL, and graduated from H.B. Plant High School. He received the Thom McAn Trophy as the nation’s top high school scholar-athlete. He was an undergraduate at the University of Florida with a major in philosophy. There he also played quarterback on the football team and was later inducted into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, receiving an M.A. in theology. He received an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, in Deerfield, IL, before returning to England for a Ph.D. in New Testament from Cambridge University.

From 1997-1999, he served as an adjunct professor in New Testament for the Trinity Washington, D.C., Extension Program.

He is the editor of The Ministerial Forum, a publication of the Evangelical Free Church of America Ministerial Association, and has served on a number of boards of the EFCA and other Christian organizations.

In January 1964 he committed his life to Christ during a Sunday morning service at the Community Church of God in Plainfield, NJ.
In 1966 at the age of 16 Crawford acknowledged his calling to preach the gospel.
1968-1972 attended Philadelphia Biblical University (PBU), graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible with an emphasis on pastoral studies.

Born in London, Ontario, Canada in 1960 James received his Masters Degree in 1988 from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois and his Doctorate from Phoenix Seminary in 1996.

He and his wife, Kathy, have three children: Luke, Landon, and Abigail.

James is founding pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel and has extensive retreat and Bible conference speaking experience.

James’ teaching, which emphasizes the precise exposition of God’s Word and its practical life application, can be heard through the daily half hour radio broadcast, Walk in the Word, which began in February of 1997 and is currently aired on over 650 stations around the country, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis, Phoenix and Miami.

Born and raised in Toronto, John Mahaffey became a follower of Christ in his teenage years through the witness of his late uncle, the Rev. Gordon Lean, who was then Pastor of the Boston Baptist Church, Boston Ontario. In October 1972, John was baptized at Churchill Heights Baptist Church (now Morningstar).

During his high school years, John witnessed many of his friends and classmates become Christians and began to sense God calling him into the ministry. After graduating from Central Baptist Seminary, John and his wife Andrea, became missionaries with SEND International in the Philippines, where John led two Church Planting teams of national and foreign missionaries. In January 1990 he became Senior Pastor of Morningstar Christian Fellowship in Toronto. During John’s 18 years of leadership at Morningstar, the church experienced unprecedented growth, changing from a predominantly homogeneous single congregation of 400 into a two congregation, multicultural church of over 1200 regular worshippers from 70 different nations.

John became Senior Pastor of West Highland in January 2008 after an almost two year period of earnestly seeking the Lord’s guidance. In the short time he has been here the church leadership has launched “Operation Rehoboth” a plan to create more space to house our growing ministries and staff.

In addition to his pastoral duties, John is Chair of the Adam House Board, a special ministry to refugees in Toronto, a member of the Canadian Advisory Council to Exodus Global Alliance, an international ministry to the sexually broken and a founding member of The Gospel Coalition, a group of evangelical leaders committed to gospel centred ministry. When John is not busy leading West Highland’s staff and team of pastors, he can usually be found enjoying fishing on a nearby lake or bombing around Hamilton on his vintage Vespa Scooter. John and Andrea have four children.

C.J. Mahaney leads Sovereign Grace Ministries in its mission to establish and support local churches.  After 27 years of pastoring Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, C.J. handed the senior pastor role to Joshua Harris on September 18, 2004, allowing C.J. to devote his full attention to Sovereign Grace.  He serves on the Council of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, and on the board of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.  He is author of The Cross Centered Life; Christ Our Mediator; Sex, Romance, and the Glory of God: What Every Christian Husband Needs to Know; Humility: True Greatness; and Living the Cross Centered Life.  He also contributed to Dear Timothy: Letter on Pastoral Ministry, and to two additional volumes in the Foundations for the Family Series (Crossway). He has also edited or co-authored four books in the Pursuit of Godliness book series, published by Sovereign Grace Ministries:  Why Small Groups?, This Great Salvation, How Can I Change?, and Disciplines for Life.

Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., serves as the ninth president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary—the flagship school of the Southern Baptist Convention and one of the largest seminaries in the world.

Dr. Mohler has been recognized by such influential publications as Time and Christianity Today as a leader among American evangelicals. In fact, Time.com called him the “reigning intellectual of the evangelical movement in the U.S.”

In addition to his presidential duties, Dr. Mohler hosts The Albert Mohler Program, a daily live nationwide radio program on the Salem Radio Network. Dr. Mohler also serves as the Joseph Emerson Brown Professor of Christian Theology at Southern Seminary. His writings have been published throughout the United States and Europe. In addition to contributing to a number of collected volumes, he is the author of several books, including Culture Shift: Engaging Current Issues with Timeless Truth (Multnomah), Desire & Deceit: The Real Cost of the New Sexual Tolerance (Multnomah), Atheism Remix: A Christian Confronts the New Atheists (Crossway), He Is Not Silent: Preaching in a Postmodern World (Moody), and the forthcoming The Disappearance of God: Dangerous Beliefs in the New Spiritual Openness (Multnomah). From 1985 to 1993, he served as Associate Editor of Preaching, a journal for evangelical preachers, and is currently Editor-in-Chief of The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology.

A leader within the Southern Baptist Convention, Dr. Mohler has served in several offices including a term as Chairman of the SBC Committee on Resolutions, which is responsible for the denomination’s official statements on moral and doctrinal issues. He also served on the seven-person Program and Structure Study Committee, which recommended the 1995 restructuring of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination. In 2000, Dr. Mohler served on a blue-ribbon panel that made recommendations to the Southern Baptist Convention for revisions to the Baptist Faith and Message, the statement of faith most widely held among Southern Baptists. Since 1995, he has served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Council of Seminary Presidents.

Dr. Tom Nelson graduated with a Masters of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and received his doctorate from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He and his wife Liz arrived in Kansas City in 1988 to begin Christ Community Church. Tom has served as senior pastor there since that time. Tom received his ordination with the EFCA in 1992. He has served on the Midwest District Board, as well as the National Ministerial Association Board. Tom is the author of Five Smooth Stones: Discovering the Path to Wholeness of Soul, published by Cross Training Publishing in 2001. He is also a conference speaker who calls the evangelical community to walk deeply and authentically with God. Tom and Liz and their two children, Schaeffer and Sarah, reside in Leawood, Kansas.

John Neufeld has been Senior Pastor of Willingdon Church in Burnaby, British Columbia, where he has served since 1999.  Willingdon is an international church of over 4000 in attendance on weekend services.  As Dr. Neufeld preaches, his sermons are simultaneously translated into seven different languages to reach an ethnically and culturally diverse congregation.  Willingdon also sees weekly conversions in a location (Greater Vancouver) that has a church attendance rate much like that of many European cities.  Dr. Neufeld is a graduate of Columbia Bible College (Biblical Studies), the University of Saskatchewan (B.A.), Fuller Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (D.Min.).  He has been in pastoral ministry since 1976, serving in churches in Saskatchewan, California and British Columbia, both as a church planter and senior pastor.  John has taught at sessionally at Columbia Bible College for some 12 years, as well as serving there full time for 2 1/2 years.  His areas of teaching included, “Christianity and Contemporary Thought” and “Preaching”.  He has also taught at Immanuel Christian University in Oradea, Romania.  He has spoken at numerous churches and seminars throughout North America.  Recently, he has begun an Organization called “Refocus Canada”.  Refocus Canada seeks to ignite a resurgent, vibrant and theologically rooted network for like minded Pastors in Western Canada, who are dedicated to the glory of God and the growth of Christ’s kingdom.

Pastor Ortlund received a B.A. from Wheaton College, Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary, M.A. from The University of California, Berkeley, and Ph.D. from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Pastor Ortlund served as Associate Professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois from 1989-1998.

He was ordained by Lake Avenue Congregational Church, Pasadena, California, 1975.  He currently serves as pastor at Immanuel Church, Nashville, Tennessee.  He has been married to Jan Giles Ortlund for thirty-eight happy years, and they have four delightful children, all launched into life.

The Reverend Richard D. Phillips was elected senior minister-elect by the congregation of Second Presbyterian Church, on April 15, 2007. He came to Greenville from First Presbyterian Church of Coral Springs/Margate, FL, where he served as senior minister since 2002. Previously, he served as minister of preaching at historic Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA. He and his wife, Sharon, have five children: Hannah, Matthew, Jonathan, Ellie, and Lydia. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan (BA), the University of Pennsylvania (MBA), and Westminster Theological Seminary (M. Div. with first honors).
Rev. Phillips served in the US Army for 13 years, holding command and staff positions in a number of combat units. While gaining his M.B.A. at the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia, he was converted to faith in Christ through the preaching of the gospel at Tenth Presbyterian Church. A few years later, while serving as assistant professor of leadership at West Point and holding the rank of major, he and his wife were persuaded of God’s call into the ordained ministry. Resigning from the Army, they moved back to Philadelphia to attend seminary.
While still in seminary, Rick became minister to a large inner-city outreach to singles and within a few years was preaching weekly at Tenth Presbyterian Church in downtown Philadelphia, the very church in which he was earlier converted and where he had met Sharon. During that time he also served on the staff of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, a radio and publishing ministry led by Rick’s mentor and senior pastor, James Montgomery Boice. He remains on the board of directors of that organization, currently serving as vice chairman. He also chairs the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology, founded by Dr. Boice in 1974 and passed on to Rick’s leadership after Dr. Boice’s death in 2000. Rev. Phillips’ preaching is heard nationwide on the radio program, God’s Living Word.
Rev. Phillips focuses his ministry on what he refers to as the “3 P’s”: preaching, praying and pastoring. Additionally, God has called him to a writing ministry and he regularly authors books and articles. Among his twenty-one books, his most recent include a commentary on Zechariah and Jesus the Evangelist, a primer on evangelism drawn from studies in the Gospel of John. Rev. Phillips frequently speaks at conferences on the Bible and theology and is active in overseas missions, especially in East Africa. In addition to his ministry duties, Rick likes to spend time with his wife and children and is an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

John Stephen Piper was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Bill and Ruth Piper January 11, 1946. When John and his older sister were still small, the Pipers moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where John spent the rest of his growing-up years. At Wheaton College (1964-68), John majored in Literature and minored in Philosophy. Studying Romantic Literature with Clyde Kilby stimulated the poetic side of his nature, and today he regularly writes poems to celebrate special family occasions as well as composing story-poems (based on the life of a biblical character) for his congregation during the four weeks of Advent each year. At Wheaton, John also met Noel Henry whom he married 1968.

Following college he completed a Bachelor of Divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California (1968-71). John did his doctoral work in New Testament Studies at the University of Munich, Munich, West Germany (1971-74). His dissertation, Love Your Enemies, was published by Cambridge University Press and Baker Book House. Upon completion of his doctorate he went on to teach Biblical Studies at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota for six years (1974-80).

In 1980, sensing an irresistible call of the Lord to preach, John became the senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he has been ministering ever since. Together with his people, John is dedicated to spreading a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ.

John and Noel have four sons, a daughter, and an increasing number of grandchildren.

Rev. Redmond and his wife Pam have been very happily married for thirteen years. They have five children (Charis, Chloe, Candace, Calvin, and Codell) and they reside in Lanham, Maryland. Together, Pastor and Mrs. Redmond have provided ministry to college students and young married couples. The heart of the Redmonds’ ministry partnership is strengthening families.

Pastor Redmond’s teaching interests lie in genre criticism, narrative and poetical literatures, biblical theology, marriage and family. In the unspecified future, he hopes to pursue doctoral work in Old Testament studies.

Rev. Redmond’s favorite Scriptures are Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,” Job 26:14, “And these are but the outer fringe of His works; how faint a whisper we hear of Him! Who then can understand His power?” and Psalm 115:3, “Our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.”

Dr. Harry L. Reeder, III is the Senior Pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Cindy are natives of Charlotte, North Carolina. They have three children: Jennifer Toomer, Harry IV, and Abigail Leib (Ryan).  Additionally, they are the proud grandparents of Brianna, C.J. and Mack Toomer and Matthias & Taylor Leib.

Pastor Reeder began his undergraduate work at East Carolina University.  After his marriage to Cindy, he withdrew in order to allow his wife to finish her BA degree in chemistry from UNCC.  During the first year of their marriage in 1969, Harry was called by the Gospel of grace in Jesus Christ to a personal relationship with the risen Savior.  After Cindy’s graduation, he returned to East Carolina University.  Heeding God’s call in his life to the Gospel ministry, he left ECU and finished his undergraduate work at Covenant College, graduating in 1974.  With a degree in History and Bible, he began to Pastor an Independent Bible Church in the Chattanooga area.  This ministry continued for six years, during which he went part-time to Tennessee Temple Seminary.  Due to growing convictions in certain areas of theology and ecclesiology, Pastor Reeder resigned his charge in Chattanooga and went into a Pastorate of the Presbyterian Church in America in Miami, Florida—Pinelands Presbyterian Church.  While in Miami, he completed his Master of Divinity Degree with Westminster Seminary through the Florida Theological Center.  Pinelands Presbyterian Church enjoyed the blessing of God’s sovereign grace and grew from an attendance of 50 to over 400 in his two-and-a-half year pastorate.

In February of 1983, Pastor Reeder was called to Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church on as their founding Pastor.  The ministry began with 38 committed members and in seventeen years, attendance has grown to over 3,000 during the Lord’s Day morning worship services.  The Lord has also brought into existence a growing radio ministry entitled “In Perspective.”  The program is heard Monday through Friday on a number of stations in the southeast.  An increasing amount of his time is devoted to leadership development, Christian Manhood Seminars, and lectures on the War between the States, with a biographical focus upon Generals Robert E. Lee, Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. Pastor Reeder has recently written a book that has been published by Crossway called Dynamic Leadership.

Additionally, he is devoted to the ministry of Church Revitalization hosting conferences in the United States twice a year called, “Embers to a Flame.”  Pastor Reeder completed his doctoral dissertation on The Biblical Paradigm of Church Revitalization and received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte, North Carolina.  He is the author of “From Embers to a Flame – How God Can Revitalize Your Church”

Pastor Reeder’s commitment to ministry could be summed up with the following comments, first about his former church, then about his current church: “I believe that the Lord called me to Charlotte, North Carolina for a particular purpose.  That is to establish by the grace of God, a Servant-Resource Church, one through which other churches can be planted and encouraged; revitalization of existing churches and resourcing para-church ministries to advance the claims of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God throughout the world.  I believe unless the Lord intervenes with special direction, that He has called me to this ministry with a lifetime commitment.  My overall philosophy of ministry can be found in Ephesians 4:11-16, specifically as a Pastor/Teacher, I am to “equip the saints” so they can do “the work of the ministry.”  I look forward by the grace of God to a long, exciting, and productive ministry at Christ Covenant in the beautiful area and community of Charlotte, North Carolina.”

Providentially, Pastor Reeder received a call from the Lord to become the Senior Pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama.  Though a native of Charlotte, he stated: “What I have come to realize is that personal blessings of the Lord are not the same as a calling from the Lord.  If I do not respond to His clear call because of my personal enjoyments and comforts in His blessings, then those blessings become idols.  I need to do, I want to do, and I eagerly look forward to doing what the Lord has called me to do at Briarwood.” 

Pastor Reeder is beginning his 9th year at Briarwood Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Dr. George W. Robertson is currently the Senior Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, Georgia, where he has served since July, 2005.  He ministered for 15 years at Covenant Presbyterian Church of St. Louis, MO.  During his time at that church, membership grew from 60 to 600.  Under his leadership, Covenant Presbyterian, along with Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian successfully planted another church in the St. Louis area. 

Dr. Robertson is a 1988 graduate of Covenant College.  From Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis, he earned his Master of Divinity degree in 1991 and his Master of Theology in Biblical and Pastoral Theology in 1997.  He also served as Lecturer/Adjunct Professor of Practical Theology at Covenant Theological Seminary from 1992 to 2005.  In May of 2007 he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Historical and Theological Studies from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA.

He formerly served as Trustee Advisor at Covenant College, and presently serves the College as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

He and his wife, Jackie, are the parents of Taylor, Abbey, Anna and Caroline.

Philip Graham Ryken is Senior Minister of Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, where he has preached since 1995.  He is Bible Teacher for the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, speaking nationally on the radio program Every Last Word.  Dr. Ryken was educated at Wheaton College (IL), Westminster Theological Seminary (PA) and the University of Oxford (UK), from which he received his doctorate in historical theology.  He lives with his wife (Lisa) and children (Josh, Kirsten, Jack, Kathryn, and Karoline) in Center City, Philadelphia.  When he is not preaching or playing with his family, he likes to read books, shoot baskets and ponder the relationship between Christian faith and American culture.

Biography

Juan was born in Puerto Rico on July 29, 1965, and lived there until moving to central Florida with his family when he was almost eight years old.  Though having grown up religious, Juan began to struggle with faith issues when high school friends introduced the gospel to him at the age of 16; however, he wrestled with the truth of the gospel for about a year and confessed faith in Christ in June of 1983. 

After graduating high school, Juan enlisted in the United States Navy, where he received a Navy R.O.T.C. scholarship to the University of Florida with the intention of pursuing a commission as a naval officer.  In his third semester of studies, however, Juan sensed a call to the gospel ministry and relinquished his scholarship.  He completed his obligations to the Navy and returned to the University of Florida where he completed a Bachelor of Music degree (Music Education, 1994).  In 1998, Juan moved to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M. Div., 2000; Th.M., 2002; Ph. D. student in systematic theology, 2002-present) in preparation for ministry.

Juan has served local churches in Florida, Georgia and Indiana and in August of 2005, he accepted the call to become the preaching pastor at High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.  High Pointe is a multi-ethnic congregation with both a local and a global focus to see all peoples become whole-hearted followers of Jesus Christ. 

Juan has been joyfully married to Jeanine since June 29, 1990, and they presently reside just outside of Austin, in Manor, Texas with their five daughters: Alexandra (1991), Hope Amanda (1995), Gabrielle (1997), Zoe (2000) and Maxey (2003).

Biography

Trusting Jesus as Lord and Savior as a teen, Pastor Tim was redirected by the Lord as a collegian from the pursuit of law to full-time Christian ministry. His passion now is to shepherd men and women, boys and girls, to completeness in Christ and to see the local church become a radiant beacon to Christ’s self-giving love in a world that is loveless and dark.

Born and raised in north San Diego County, and educated at San Diego State University (B.S., Finance), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M., New Testament) and the University of Cambridge (Ph.D., Classical Archaeology and Pauline Epistles), Pastor Tim came to CBC as our Senior Pastor at Christmastime, 1988.

Prior to his call to Camelback, Tim was an Assistant Pastor at Eden Chapel in Cambridge, England, the Youth Pastor at Northwest Bible Church in Dallas, Texas, and program staff for youth ministry at Forest Home Christian Conference Center in Forest Falls, California.
Tim and Lesli were married in June of 1980. Lesli has home educated their two sons – Matthew, who is presently on the golf team at Stanford University, and Jonathan, who, still at home, is a good student, an avid guitarist and enjoys all sports.
A favorite verse of Pastor Savage and one he seeks to apply to his ministry is 2 Corinthians 4:5: `For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.’

Biography

David Short has been rector of St. John’s (Shaughnessy) Anglican Church in Vancouver, British Columbia since 1993.  He was born in Tanzania and brought up in Africa and in Sydney, Australia, where he studied at Moore Theological College and was ordained in 1987. He has degrees from the University of Wollongong, Moore College and a ThM from Regent College in Vancouver. Sydney Anglicans have an historical commitment to reformed biblical theology.

He is a recognized Bible teacher, expository preacher and trainer. He is a founder and Executive Director of the Artizo Institute – a Canadian initiative to identify and train young people who are gifted for ministry. For many years, he was actively involved in the Anglican Essentials Canada movement, seeking reformation and renewal and a return to live orthodoxy within the Anglican Church of Canada. Since June 2005, he has been on the Executive/Board of the Anglican Network in Canada and in February 2008, St. John’s (Shaughnessy) voted to join the Anglican Network in Canada under the jurisdiction of the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone (southern portion of South America). 

David has a passion to instill a love of God’s word in others and to train pastors in expository preaching.

David and his wife, Bronwyn, have two children - Benjamin (born in 1986) and Joshua (born in 1989).

Biography

Colin Smith is the Senior Pastor of The Orchard Evangelical Free Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois.  He and his wife Karen have two grown sons.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Colin was raised in a Christian Family and felt the call of God to pastoral ministry from an early age.  He trained at the London School of Theology where he received a B.A. in theology and later an M. Phil. for his work on Calvin’s doctrine of justification in relation to the sense of sin and the dialogue with Rome.

Colin pastored the Enfield Evangelical Free Church in North London for sixteen years and during that time served in various capacities in the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches, including a time as their President.

Since 1996, Colin has served as Senior Pastor of The Orchard Evangelical Free Church (formerly the Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church).  His primary focus is on preaching and his ministry is shared more widely through his radio program called Unlocking the Bible.

Biography

A native of Graham, North Carolina, pastor Smith dates his spiritual birthday as March 7, 1968 when a friend took him to a Billy Graham movie entitled, “The Restless Ones”, and he responded to the gospel.  Leading up to his conversion, Scotty was a member of the R&B band, The Originals, which played mostly “beach music” for fraternity parties and dance clubs in the Carolinas.

In the fall of 1968, Scotty entered the University of North Carolina as a pre-pharmacy major; early in his first semester, he felt the internal call to vocational ministry, switching his major to religion.  During his years at UNC, he was involved in many campus ministries but invested most of his time serving with a musical ministry team, The New Directions, based out of Burlington, North Carolina.  The director of the ND’s was J.L. Williams, Scotty’s first dicipler and mentor in the faith.

In 1972, Scotty married Darlene Eakin of Greensboro, North Carolina.  For a few years, Scotty was on staff with The ND’s as well as teaching at a small Bible College.  After graduating from UNC, Scotty and Darlene moved to Philadelphia, PA to attend Westminster Theological Seminary.  It was there that Scotty and Darlene met Jack and Rose Marie Miller who became the most important spiritual influence in their lives.  Jack was Scotty’s advisor and professor at Westminster and Scotty credits Jack with exposing his heart to the Alps of the Gospel of God’s Grace.

After graduating with a M.A. in N.T. Studies at Westminster, Scotty and Darlene moved back to North Carolina where Scotty served at Trinity Church in Greensboro before joining the staff of First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem.  It was there that he was ordained into the ministry of the Word in 1978.  In 1979, the Smith’s were called to Nashville, TN where Scotty joined the staff of First Presbyterian Church as Youth Pastor.

In 1981, Scotty helped plant Christ Presbyterian Church, a PCA church in Nashville, with senior pastor, Cortez Cooper.  Scotty and Darlene were later sent out by Christ Pres. in 1986, to plant a daughter church which became Christ Community Church in Franklin, TN.  To present, Scotty continues to serve CCC as senior pastor.  He is in the pulpit approximately 28 Sundays per year, teaches a satellite class each Monday for Covenant Seminary, teaches a bible study for the women’s ministry each Tuesday and the same bible study on Wednesday nights; he also continues as an adjunct professor of Covenant Seminary teaching a class on their campus each year during winter interim.  Scotty’s church office has a swinging door as he meets with his parishioners and church officers regularly.

Biography

Having received most of his higher education from institutions near the Boston area, Dr. Um has acquired a unique awareness for the various intellectual and cultural issues confronting Bostonians. He is a graduate of Phillips Academy at Andover, and Boston University where he read Sociology and Philosophy. After receiving a call to ministry, he entered Seminary at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he received an M. Div. and a post-graduate degree (Th.M.) in Biblical Theology. He received his Ph.D. in New Testament studies at St. Mary’s College (University of St. Andrews) in Scotland. Furthermore, since the beginning of 2002, Dr. Um has been teaching New Testament studies as a faculty member of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He has a burden to propagate the vision of kingdom expansion through church planting to prospective church planters studying in our nation’s seminaries.

For the past 18 years, Stephen and his wife, Kathleen, have been involved in several Presbyterian Churches throughout the Northeastern part of the country. They began their ministry by serving at a church in Hartford, CT for a couple of years before planting a multi-cultural college church at Brown University in Providence, RI. From there, they moved down to New York City for five years where they sensed God’s call to plant a young professional ministry. He is now the Senior Minister of Citylife Church in Boston, and the author of The Theme of Temple Christology in John’s Gospel, The Library of New Testament Studies 2006, T & T Clark International (formerly the Journal for the Study of the New Testament Supplement Series). Stephen is a member of the Board of Directors for The Gospel Coalition, for which he serves as the Secretary. Citylife Church in center city Boston is an ethnically diverse group of professional and creative urbanites.

Biography

Gregory L. Waybright was president of Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. He assumed this position on September 1, 1995. Prior to working at Trinity, Dr. Waybright had been pastor of the Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In his 17 years as a pastor he has also served as senior pastor of Grace Bible Church in Arroyo Grande, California and as assistant pastor of Calvary Memorial Church in Racine, Wisconsin.
Prior to 1978, Dr. Waybright served in ministry roles with youth and music in churches in Wisconsin and Illinois. For more than four years he served as music director and soloist for the Guenter Tesch Evangelistic Association, headquartered in Hamburg, West Germany. This mission work provided Dr. Waybright with ministry opportunities throughout Western Europe, Scandinavia, and India.

Dr. Waybright earned the doctor of philosophy in New Testament theology from Marquette University; his dissertation was entitled, “Discipleship and Possessions in the Gospel of Mark: A Narrative Study.” He holds a master of divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, a master of arts in communication from Wheaton Graduate School, a bachelor of arts in biblical studies and philosophy from Wheaton College, and a diploma in pastoral studies from Moody Bible Institute. Dr. Waybright has studied and done research at Tyndale House and Cambridge University in England.

Dr. Waybright is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Biblical Literature. He has been involved with the Evangelical Free Church Mission (EFCM), serving as chair on the board and as a representative of EFCM to the Evangelical Free Church of America Board of Directors.

Dr. Waybright contributed to Dignity and Dying: A Christian Appraisal (Eerdmans). He and his wife, Chris, have two children and now reside in Pasadena, California.

In 1995, Sanders L. (Sandy) Willson was called as senior minister to Second Presbyterian Church, Memphis, Tennessee, a 160-year old church with a great legacy and a need for revitalization.  Over ten years, the church has doubled its Sunday worship attendance, tripled its missions giving, and revitalized its worship, educational, pastoral, and lay leadership development ministries.

In Memphis, Sandy is a co-founder and board member of Memphis Center for Urban Theologcial Studies; a co-founder and chair of NEXUS (leadership mentoring program for emerging adult professional leaders); a co-founder of the Clayborn Council, a collaborative urban church planting ministry; the founder of Reformed Ministries Network (a regional church planting ministry); and a co-founder and board member of the Second Presbyterian Church Foundation for missions.  He serves on the Board of Reference for Union University and Reformed Theological Seminary.  Sandy’s Sunday morning messages are broadcast on WREG TV (CBS affiliate); he also teaches 500 men at “AMEN Bible Study” every Thursday at 6:30am.

Internationally, Sandy ministers with partners in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East and speaks regularly in North American churches on the topic of world missions.  He is on the Board of Directors for World Relief. 

Sandy received a B. S. from the University of Virginia (1973), an M. Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (1982), and a D. D. from Crichton College in Memphis, Tennessee (2001).  He previously pastored Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton, Tennessee (1981–1986) and Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee (1986–1995).

Sandy and Allison were married in 1972 and have five children, who all bring great joy to their parents.

Biography

John Yates attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where, in 1968, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and a Morehead Scholar.  He received his Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1971 and, in 1972, was ordained a priest in the Protestant Episcopal Church.  In 1984 he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Since 1979 John Yates has been Rector (Senior Minister) of The Falls Church in Falls Church, Virginia, a large evangelical church outside of Washington, DC, with about 2,500 members.  The historic church was founded in 1732 and is now known for its strong focus on family life, vibrant worship, outstanding youth ministry, and strong biblical teaching and preaching.  He and Susan have five children and seven grandchildren.

John’s work over the years with Christian youth and young families has especially equipped him as a spokesman on family life.  Along with his wife Susan, John has much experience as a speaker on the challenges of raising a family in an increasingly secular world.  He has a particular interest in teaching and discipling men.

John has led conferences for a host of Christian organizations including Young Life, Campus Crusade for Christ, and Inter-Varsity and along with his wife Susan, speaks regularly at Family Life Marriage Conferences across the United States.  As a speaker and teacher, John has ministered to a variety of groups in the United States, Canada, Europe, Great Britain, Russia, Asia, the Far East, East Africa, and South Africa.

Paul is a graduate of Harvard, the seminary in Nottingham, England, and the recipient of a doctorate in theology from the University of Tubingen, Germany.
